Have you ever caught yourself singing along to the radio in your car, or humming your favourite tune while walking through town, and thought, “I wish I could do this with other people”?
If you love music, want to meet wonderful neighbours, and desire to add a little extra joy to your weekly routine, we have a seat waiting for you. The Huntsville Community Choir is officially opening its doors for the upcoming season, and we want you to join our musical family.
Here are a few reasons why stepping into our rehearsal space might be the best decision you make this year:
1. No Auditions Required (Seriously!)
Many people hold back from joining a choir because they are worried about singing alone in front of a director. We have great news: there are absolutely no auditions or formal vocal training required to join us. If you love to sing and want to learn, you are qualified! We sing in traditional four-part harmony (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass), and our leadership will gently help you figure out exactly where your voice fits best.
2. No Sheet Music Memorization
Do you worry about your ability to memorize pages of music for a big performance? Don't be! Our choir members sing with their music folders in hand during our concerts. This takes the pressure off your shoulders so you can focus entirely on blending your voice with the group and enjoying the experience.
3. A Warm, Welcoming Muskoka Community
Since we first started raising our voices together in 1989, our main mission has been to bring people together and spread happiness through song. We are a passionate, inclusive non-profit group of neighbours who support one another. Our rehearsals include structured learning but also valuable social time to chat, connect, and form lasting friendships with fellow community members.
4. A Diverse and Exciting Repertoire
We don't stick to just one style of music. Throughout our season, we dive into a wonderful, eclectic mix of genres. Depending on the concert, you might find yourself singing:
Beautiful sacred and secular classics
Energetic gospel and folk songs
Uplifting show tunes and Celtic melodies
Festive favorites for our annual Christmas concert
5. Giving Back to Huntsville and Surrounding Communities
Singing with us is a powerful way to support the local cultural scene. We perform two to three major seasonal concerts a year, but we also love bringing music directly to the community through local festivals, charity events, and visits to local seniors' residences. Many of our members also contribute to local performing arts and other music venues locally and regionally
