Harmony and Hops: Huntsville Community Choir Rings in St. Patrick’s Day at Canvas Brewing
The spirit of the Emerald Isle took over downtown Huntsville this past March 17, as the Huntsville Community Choir (HCC) delivered a rousing performance of traditional Irish choral music at
Canvas Brewing Company.
Invited by the local brewery to anchor their St. Patrick’s Day festivities, the choir traded the traditional concert hall for a cozy pub atmosphere, performing to a sold-out, capacity crowd.
Under the direction of Louis Tusz, the ensemble showcased their versatility by moving beyond their standard repertoire to embrace "toe-tapping" Irish favourites and lively "Newfoundland ditties". The evening was designed as a true community celebration, featuring:
A "Rocking" Program: The choir was joined by various local musicians and ensembles to provide a full, fun-filled program.
Lively Instrumentation: The performance included a mix of traditional and contemporary arrangements, encouraging the audience to raise a glass and sing along.
Festive Atmosphere: Hosted at the brewery's John Street location, the event transformed the space into a vibrant Irish hub from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 in the evening.
The collaboration proved to be a major success for both the choir and the brewery. Representatives from the Huntsville Community Choir later expressed their gratitude to the "sold out show" attendees and thanked Canvas Brewing Company for hosting the unique outreach event. With every seat—from the benches to the barstools—filled, the evening served as a powerful reminder of Huntsville's rich local talent and community spirit.
