All aboard for carols at the portage Flyer!
On the eve of the winter solstice, Huntsville’s Portage Flyer Christmas train was alive with magic and anticipation. As passengers—both young and young at heart—lined up on the snow-dusted path to the train platform, you could feel the excitement despite the cool evening air. As families lined up to get their tickets and board the train, members of the Huntsville Community Choir welcomed everyone with familiar Christmas tunes.
The evening was picture-perfect—not too cold, but with just enough snow to make the landscape sparkle and the Christmas lights shimmer. As the train chugged along the tracks, excitement filled the air. Children’s eyes were filled with wonder, while adults shared smiles and stories. The anticipation of telling Santa their deepest wishes at the Purser’s cabin was almost too much for some. That pure enthusiasm caught on, spreading to parents and grandparents alike, who rode with a grin and an extra twinkle in their eyes.
Steaming cups of hot chocolate warmed chilly hands and were a delight on the tongue—a sweet comfort against the crisp air. The wait in line felt short as the choir’s carols wrapped around everyone like a cozy blanket. In one memorable moment, choir members led the crowd in a rousing version of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ complete with dance moves! Smiles lit up faces as voices rose together, echoing across the snowy platform.
Thank you, Town of Huntsville, for bringing us together at this incredible event! The Portage Flyer Christmas train ride was more than just a trip—it was a celebration of community, warmth, and the true spirit of the season. Moments like these remind us of the joy of gathering, singing, and sharing festive traditions with neighbours and friends.
