demonstrating “community” in community choir
With the Christmas season upon us, the Huntsville Community Choir has been out and about entertaining seniors and others in town with holiday favourites.
Beginning November 21st, Choir members traveled throughout the community bringing music to retirement residences, long term care homes, and seniors’ luncheons.
You also could find us singing carols downtown at the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony and throughout the weekend at the Muskoka Market.
Expect to see us singing beloved Christmas carols at the Portage Flyer Train Station on December 20, entertaining families waiting to take the train to see Santa.
We love doing sing-outs. When we hear a long-term care resident lustily joining in a favourite Christmas carol, see a toddler waving enthusiastically at their mother or grandfather who is part of the choir, or experience a whole room singing along with “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, we know that we are doing something important- building community through music.
Spreading music into the community like this is a hallmark of a ‘community choir’. The other important aspect is inclusiveness: our Choir is open to all, regardless of age, gender, and previous musical experience. There are no auditions! Our goal is to share the joys of singing among both singers and audiences. If you are interested in joining us, please contact us at info@huntsvillecommunitychoir.com.
And plan to attend our Christmas concert, Whispers of Winter, at Trinity United Church on Friday, December 12 at 7 p.m. or Saturday, December 13 at 2:30 p.m.
